70’s Flashback – July 14, 1977: NYC Blackout

34 years ago, on a hot, humid, sultry summer night, the lights went out in New York City…

July 14, 1977: NYC Blackout | Video – ABC News.

I truly cringe as the ABC hairspray jockeys talk about the “animals” in New York City (even though they are quoting NYPD, or maybe that makes it worse).  Yeah…NYC had a whole different reputation back when I was a kid.

  1. That was interesting. It amazes me when I’m hit with how frail we are. If I want food I buy it. When I want to cool down, I click on the air-conditioner. Drought and famine happen in other countries. But we’re more vulnerable here than we know. When I was in Alaska, if the electricity went out, we didn’t care. We had wood stoves and wells. We could live without power forever. Here in the city, I don’t know how I’d get clean water if something happened to my water supply.
